Any urban environment is bound to have an ebb and flow to it’s storefronts. DtStP seems to be small enough that just about every change is noticed and mourned or celebrated by anyone paying attention. The end often comes with an expected-yet-surprising suddenness, while signs of new life are often limited to murmurs, speculation, and lengthy delays.
